Brat Green Hex Code: #8ACE00 or #89CC04?

The famous brat green has two hex codes: #8ACE00, the value most tools and fan sites cite, and #89CC04, what color pickers read off the official artwork. Both are real — this page documents every format of both, plus the Pantone reference, lookalike greens, and the contrast math behind the black type. Click a swatch to copy it.

The History

The Origins and History of Brat Green

The rise of brat green began with Charli XCX's sixth studio album — a color chosen against every instinct of polished 2020s design, and initially mocked for it.

01

Around 500 greens were tested first

Creative director Brent David Freaney's studio Special Offer, Inc. worked through roughly 500 candidate greens with Charli before the final shade won. The brief demanded something "offensive, off-trend" — the opposite of a focus-grouped brand color. What survived the cut was a green that looks slightly wrong on purpose.

02

It was designed to be uncool

Every polished aesthetic of the early 2020s — beige, sage, clean girl minimalism — was the reference point to destroy. Brat green is high-saturation, faintly dirty, and impossible to style politely. Charli's own manifesto called the artwork "obnoxious, arrogant and bold. Some people will hate it." The hate was priced in.

03

The press called it bilious sludge

When the cover landed, The New York Times described the color as "noxious" and "abrasive" — the color of "bilious sludge." None of that hurt the campaign, because the hostility was the marketing: a color everyone needed to complain about was a color everyone had to look at.

04

From album cover to presidential campaign

Within hours of Kamala Harris entering the 2024 race, her campaign rebranded its social headers in brat green with the lowercase Arial treatment — an officially unofficial blessing from the brat account. No fan color had crossed into presidential politics that fast before.

05

Brat summer ran on one square

The whole visual system is one flat color plus lowercase text — reproducible by anyone with a browser. That radical simplicity is what turned a single hex code into a meme engine: every fan cover, brand riff, and sign-off post reused the same green, which made the green itself the story.

06

Low-res on purpose, legible by contrast

The blurry, compressed look is deliberate — it reads like a screenshot of a screenshot. But underneath the grime, the pairing is textbook-optical: near-black type on that lime field hits a contrast ratio most brand palettes never reach. The full numbers are in the value list below.

Every brat green value, in every format

Both hexes, converted and cross-checked — copy the format your tool actually asks for. Contrast ratios are WCAG relative-luminance math, not vibes.

RGB 138, 206, 0 · HSL 80°, 100%, 40% · HSV 80°, 100%, 81% · CMYK 33, 0, 100, 19. This is the value most tools and fan sites cite — and the default in our brat generator. Set it as --brat-green: #8ACE00; with black lowercase type: 10.9:1 contrast, WCAG AAA. White text on it manages 1.9:1 — a fail at every threshold.

How to use the brat green hex code anywhere

From a stylesheet to a Roblox dressing room — the code works the same everywhere colors can be typed.

Paste it into CSS

Define <code>--brat-green: #8ACE00;</code> as a background with near-black lowercase type — that's the whole look. Matching artwork pixel-for-pixel? Define both hexes (<code>#89CC04</code> alongside) and note which one you sampled where.

Enter it in Figma, Photoshop & Canva

Drop <strong>8ACE00</strong> into any hex field. If you sample the official cover image instead, expect to read <strong>89CC04</strong> — that's JPEG compression shifting pixels, not a different official color.

Type it in Dress to Impress (Roblox)

DTI's color picker accepts hex codes: open the customization panel, open the picker, and enter <strong>8ACE00</strong> for the brat-green/baddie outfits flooding the game. The same code works in most games and apps with a custom color field. Putting together a whole look? The <a href="/posts/brat-outfit">brat outfit guide</a> covers DTI builds and real-life versions.

Brat Green FAQ — hex codes, RGB, Pantone, and pairing

The questions this page actually gets, answered with real values instead of vibes.

What color is brat green exactly?

A high-saturation, deliberately harsh lime green sitting at hue 80° — yellower than lime (120°), greener than chartreuse (90°). It was engineered to feel slightly wrong: the designers tested hundreds of greens for the most "offensive, off-trend" one.

Is brat green #8ACE00 or #89CC04?

Both circulate, and both are legitimate. #8ACE00 (RGB 138, 206, 0) is the value most tools and fan sites cite. #89CC04 (RGB 137, 204, 4) is what color pickers typically read off screenshots of the official artwork — compression shifts pixels slightly. Same hue (80°), one hair apart; pick one and stay consistent. Our brat generator defaults to #8ACE00.

What is brat green in RGB?

#8ACE00 is RGB(138, 206, 0); the #89CC04 reading is RGB(137, 204, 4). If a form asks for 0–1 floats instead: 0.541, 0.808, 0 for #8ACE00.

What is brat green in Pantone?

Print references document it against Pantone 3507C. Screens can't reproduce a Pantone exactly — that gap between physical ink and RGB is one reason two hex codes circulate. For anything printed, spec 3507C or CMYK 33, 0, 100, 19 and approve a physical proof.

What is brat green in CMYK?

Approximately 33, 0, 100, 19 for #8ACE00 (33, 0, 98, 20 for #89CC04). CMYK conversions vary by profile, so treat these as starting points and proof on the actual stock you'll print.

What colors go with brat green?

Near-black is the pairing the color was built for: 10.9:1 contrast, WCAG AAA. White text fails outright at 1.9:1 — the white-text covers you see are deliberate style-over-accessibility recolors. For accents, the fan palette's acid yellow #E5ED23 and purple #BA51B6 both sit near brat green without competing with it.

Why is the brat cover text black and not white?

Contrast math as much as aesthetics: black type on the green reaches 10.9:1 (AAA), white collapses to 1.9:1 (fail). The designers needed maximum legibility from a deliberately low-resolution image — black was the only text color that survives the blur.

What is the brat green hex code in Dress to Impress (DTI)?

The same codes: enter 8ACE00 in DTI's color picker (customization panel → picker → hex field) for the brat-green look that flooded the game's baddie outfits. #89CC04 works too if you want the slightly duller reading.

Is brat green the same as chartreuse?

No. Chartreuse is #7FFF00 — hue 90°, RGB 127, 255, 0, brighter and ten degrees yellower. Brat green is darker (40% lightness vs 50%) and greener (hue 80°). Put side by side, chartreuse reads citrus; brat reads acid.

Can I use brat green commercially?

The color itself isn't ownable — no one can trademark a hex code, and brands used it freely through the trend. What IS protected: the "brat" name and the official album artwork (Charli XCX / Atlantic Records). A lime-green square with your own lowercase text is fine; calling your product "brat" is not.

Does brat green look different in print?

Yes — neon-leaning greens sit at the edge of what CMYK ink can hold, so print output usually looks slightly duller than your screen. That's the job for Pantone 3507C: request it (or CMYK 33, 0, 100, 19) and check a physical proof before a full run.
