The cover font, explained
It's Arial — stretched and left low-res
Typography archive Fonts In Use identifies the cover face as Arial, "stretched and of low resolution." The blur isn't a filter — the artwork upscales tiny type on purpose, a nod to MySpace-era graphics.
Even the designer called it the wrong name
Brent David Freaney of Special Offer, Inc. — who designed the cover with art direction from Imogene Strauss and Charli XCX — praised "the ugly Helvetica" in an interview. It was Arial all along, which is exactly how brat that mistake is.
The lowercase rule is non-negotiable
Every authentic brat graphic is forced lowercase. Caps break the illusion instantly — it's the most common giveaway in amateur recreations. Our generator enforces it for you.
About 500 greens were tested
Charli XCX picked the shade that provoked the strongest reaction, calling it "unfriendly and uncool" — an intentional "offensive, off-trend" green. It's quoted today as #8ACE00, with #89CC04 as the other circulating value.
The rest of the campaign used other fonts
ABC ROM Mono on the vertical strip labels, LL Unica77 on the inner sleeves, ITC Avant Garde Gothic for the back-cover wordmark. But the cover everyone recreates is plain Arial — nothing custom, nothing to buy.

Arial itself is a commercial typeface owned by Monotype and can't be redistributed — so any site handing you "brat.ttf" is skipping the license. These are the two closest free replacements, both SIL OFL 1.1 and safe for commercial work.

Every search for the "Charli XCX font" leads to the same answer: the brat cover. There is no custom typeface and nothing to purchase — it's Arial, stretched tall, forced lowercase, and left at its original low resolution. The campaign's other typefaces (ABC ROM Mono, LL Unica77, ITC Avant Garde Gothic) live on secondary materials; the cover everyone imitates is the humble one.
To type like the album: set everything in lowercase, use a bold narrow Arial-style face (or stretch a regular one vertically), put black text on #8ACE00, and keep a hint of blur.
